““High up in the air”, that’s how one could translate the ancient Greek word μετέωρος (metéōros), which the term “meteorite” derives from. When entering the Earth’s atmosphere, meteorites appear as fireballs in the sky. Anna Artaker quite literally brings such celestial light phenomena closer to us: the artist has selected nature prints of meteorites from the collection of the neighbouring Natural History Museum Vienna, adapting them artistically. Nature printing is a technique for which the object to be depicted itself serves as a printing block. Polished and etched meteorite discs are directly inked and printed or — according to a technique perfected in mid-19th century Vienna at the k. k. Hof- und Staatsdruckerei (Imperial and Royal Court and State Printing Office) — are molded twice in order to receive an intaglio printing plate.“

In its capacity as a micromuseum, MuseumQuartier Vienna’s Sternenpassage highlights artists whose work broadly relates to photography. Each resulting series is presented across five illuminated circular display cases mounted on the walls. Lumen Zine is a miniature catalogue supplementing exhibitions at Sternenpassage.
