Thomas Feuerstein’s artist’s book provides a current overview of his work in the overlapping areas of nature, visual arts and (fantastic) science. The book is based on an in-depth studio talk between Feuerstein and cultural scientist Hartmut Böhme. Taking Feuerstein’s oeuvre as point of departure Böhme presents his ideas on interdisciplinarity between science and visual arts while focusing on questions of semantics and discourse theory.
In this context Böhme analyses the term daimon and how its meaning has changed since ancient times; Böhme raises the question how this change affects man’s independence today.
In Feuerstein’s oeuvre the artist questions the human superiority over scientific processes by exploring natural materials in experimental set-ups. Thus, the material itself becomes the actual protagonist of the work of art. Finally the term mycelium as used in discourse theory symbolises the dialogue between Böhme and Feuerstein.
