Fourth volume in the series Exhibitions at the Friedrichshof collection – published by SCHLEBRÜGGE.EDITOR (Ed. Hubert Klocker)
Samuel Schaab’s confrontation with the Friedrichshof Collection takes place on two levels: in his site-specific works he thematizes the location of the Friedrichshof within Europe’s largest wind park, especially when his physical-acoustic installations place the visitor in the buzz of the wind and allow the air streams to circulate through the exhibition rooms. And in dialogue with works by Hermann Nitsch, Otto Muehl, and Adolf Frohner, he creates sound collages that explore the value of music within Viennese Actionism. In Schaab’s sculptural arrangements, nature, wind, and light find an entry into Friedrichshof’s white cube and blow through the artistic and historical weight of the exhibition’s situation. The catalogue offers a comprehensive overview over Schaab's sculptural and installation-based oeuvre of the last five years.
Samuel Schaab, born in Starnberg, completed his studies at the University of Applied Arts Vienna in the master class of Erwin Wurm and currently lives and works in Vienna.
