In his glass works, textual interventions, and installations, Zogmayer opens spaces and planes for language that allow for both simple presence and utmost concentration of meaning. Leave out as much as possible, but so confident in the placement and design that the word and its aura remain audible, visible, readable. Read the little there is in such a way that what has been left out is revealed. This reduction to short formulas or single words peels the linguistic messages from their original contexts and shifts the conventional functions of the message itself. They stand for themselves, without before or after; are cleansed of their traces of wear and tear and reintroduced into the public space whence they came.
Zogmayer reacts to the spaces’ and institutions’ existing structures and conditions. For the Dominican Church in Krems, he developed a multipart site-specific work that may at first glance remind viewers of a hopscotch in a playground. Translated into Wittgenstein’s philosophy of language. This catalogue not only helps solve this linguistic puzzle but also portrays the philosophical horizon of Zogmayer’s oeuvre.
